Races
HUMANS |
Although there are rumours that humans haven't always been around in Thedas, but have declined more and more over the years and become considerably less likely to be thought of as having any credit.
Humans are everywhere, and though other races are considered equal by law it is still humans who are most often in positions of power and whose beliefs and culture are thought of as the norm.
DWARVES |
Dwarves have been on the surface long enough there are now two distinct dwarven cultures that may appear similar to outsiders, but within dwarven society have long been considered to be deeply removed from each other. Surface culture is often considered strange and is difficult to get used to for dwarves who have just moved there, but it definitely still has its roots in Orzammar and even the families who have been on the surface the longest will generally hold great pride in their traditions.
There are of course those dwarves who have taken to human society, but they're generally shunned by other dwarves and not considered to be truly one of them.
Orzammar itself has long rid itself of the caste systems of old, though it might seem a recent thing to visitors to the dwarven kingdom. It is still extremely elitist and not fond of outsiders despite technically being open to them. Even a visiting surface dwarf would likely be better off not staying long. The atmosphere alone will usually drive off anyone new before they really get a good understanding of Orzammar and that's the way its people like it.
ELVES |
City elves no longer live in alienages though are still generally poorer than the rest of the population and so many still seem to reside in the same areas as each other. Of course, this is regarded as a choice so most people consider them to be much happier now.
For the most part the Dalish still keep to their clans and exist on the fringes of society, if even that. There are some that live in apartments in the cities, but even they are prone to keep to themselves. At least in part because the rest of society doesn't look too fondly upon the Dalish. Many Dalish residing in the city will even separate themselves from their counterparts who grew up within a city rather than among other Dalish.
QUNARI |
Vashoth and Tal-Vashoth now integrated with the other races rather than roaming in mercenary groups, but they are still outsiders and generally regarded with mistrust, though those who are clearly immersed in human culture may be accepted a little better.
The Qun itself still exists and those who practice almost all reside in Qunari ruled areas and will rarely mix with others without reason.
